Perspectives on and from the 19th Century: from China to France and back

Les 18, 19 & 20 novembre 2021

Ce colloque a pour point de départ un constat : il existe un double champ d’études dix-neuviémistes, en Chine pour le domaine français, et en France pour le domaine chinois ; or ceux-ci communiquent peu et ne sont pas organisés en réseaux ou groupes de travail. En outre, comme le prouve le nombre croissant d’étudiants chinois effectuant en France leurs études de deuxième et de troisième cycle, il existe un véritable foyer d’études sur le XIXe siècle dans le contexte de l’interculturalité sino-française.

Les propositions de communication (300-500 mots), pourvues d’un titre provisoire et accompagnées d’une brève notice biobibliographique, sont à envoyer avant le 31 juillet 2021 à l’adresse suivante : gaultierroux@fudan.edu.cn

Eleanor Stefiuk wins 2021 Postgraduate Essay Prize!

The winner of the SDN Postgraduate Essay Prize for 2021,  awarded by the Executive Committee for the best paper submitted in advance of the conference, is Eleanor Stefiuk,  Peterhouse, University  of  Cambridge , for her paper, ‘Villiers de l’Isle-Adam’s Anarchism: A Legacy of the Paris Commune’,  which offers an important and insightful contribution to the field. Congratulations to Eleanor!

Dix-Neuf at a Distance: Starting 8 January 2021

The Society of Dix-Neuviémistes and the journal Dix-Neuf are delighted to announce a new seminar series featuring new research by early-career scholars. Each seminar focuses on a specific theme, with two early-career researchers presenting an aspect of their work, followed by general discussion with a moderator.

The seminar will meet once a month on Fridays 17h UK time/ 12h EST / 18h French time. Zoom links will be circulated ahead of each seminar

2021 SERD & SDN Membership

The Society of Dix-Neuviémistes is delighted to announce a reciprocal arrangement with our French société-soeur, the Société des Études Romantiques et Dix-Neuviémistes (SERD).

Beginning in 2021, members of SDN can opt to pay an annual supplement of £10, which will give them full membership of SERD: they will receive the SERD’s annual publication, Le Magazine du XIXe siècle, as well as the Société’s electronic newsletter. Members under the reciprocal arrangement will also have voting rights at the SERD Annual General Meeting.

SDN is now accepting new members for the calendar year 2021. The membership fee for the calendar year is £40, with a concession rate of £25. The concession rate is available for postgraduates, retired members, members not in full-time employment and members of low income countries and newly emerging economies. Membership gives free personal online access to the Society’s journal Dix-Neuf, together with regular Members’ Newsletters, voting rights in the Society’s Annual General Meeting, preferential conference rates and access to sound recordings of the plenary sessions in the secure Members’ Area of the website. Submissions by members may be considered for the SDN Publication Prize.
