SDN Membership Advantages

Amongst the benefits of membership of SDN are free access to the Dix-Neuf journal and voting rights at the Society’s AGM. Membership entitles ECR members to submit published articles to be considered for the annual SDN Publication Prize, and to apply for the ECR Research grant to support a research project. Members also benefit from reduced rates at the SDN annual conference and can access sound recordings of plenary sessions at the conference if they cannot attend. For a small additional payment, SDN members can also take out membership of our sister society, the SERD (Société des études romantiques et dix-neuviémistes), which allows them to receive the Magasin du XIXème siècle, the SERD’S annual publication.

Membership of the Society

Membership of the Society is open to all scholars with an interest in nineteenth-century French and Francophone studies.

The SDN membership form can be found below. Please do not hesitate to contact us for a hard copy, if for any reason you are unable to use the online form. Upon submission of the online form, you will receive instructions via email on how to pay your membership fee.

SDN membership form

The Society defines early-career researchers as postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers within 7 years of their PhD/DPhil viva who have not yet been appointed to a permanent position.
We strongly recommend that international members pay in GBP via PayPal to avoid additional fees. The concession rate is available for postgraduates, retired members, members not in full-time employment and members from low income countries and newly emerging economies.
Upon submitting this form, you will receive an email with details of how to pay your membership fee. Please check your junk/spam folder if it doesn’t appear in your inbox. Our preferred mode of payment is bank transfer for UK-based members, and PayPal for international members.
Your data will be held in electronic form, for the Society’s use only.
